ABOUT ME
Mehmet Emin Salgamcioglu is born in 1980, Istanbul, Turkey. Mehmet (BSc. MSc. PhD., ITU) is an Architect and Associate Professor in Istanbul Technical University. He was a visiting scholar at A.Alfred Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2010 and worked on several professional design projects previously. He got his PhD in 2013 and his Associate Professor Degree in 2017. His current research areas are Architectural Design and Morphology, Space Syntax, Gentrification, Housing, and Domestic Space Organisation. He also has international and national architectural design competition awards as well as published design critics, book chapters, conference papers, and journal articles.
He’s recently researching in several projects on built environment in relation to environment-behavior theories, and space syntax studies. He’s teaching in undergraduate and graduate level courses; also his recent administrational works in ITU, Faculty of Architecture include Architectural Design Studios’ Coordination Board Membership; Architectural Design MSc & PhD Programmes Board Membership; Education & Fellowship Commissions Membership; Architectural Design and Morphology Research Group, Vice Head (Dept. of Architecture, 2018-2021 period); and NAAB Accreditation Commission Membership.
His recent awards in architectural design competitions include: Awarded 1st honorable mention in National Architectural Competition, New Bridge of Avanos and Its Environment, 2013; Awarded in OIC Headquarters, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia - International Architecture Competition for the headquarters of “Organization of Islamic Conference”, 2006. He also has an award on Publication Category of First National Architectural Critics Competition (Chamber of Architects, Turkey) with the article: “Housing in natural environment, Heidegger’s point of view and examining the relations with belongingness”; in 2003, graduaded from Bachelor of Architecture with the Award of Success (for the best GPA in architecture department - 1st in ranking) Istanbul Technical University / Faculty of Architecture / Istanbul, Turkey; in 2002 Invited to Berlin “TU–Campus 2030” summer school by TU Berlin (Berlin Technical University), Germany.
