Lale Erdem Atılgan received her BSc, MSc and PhD degrees from Istanbul Technical University, Electrical Engineering Department. During her PhD studies, she was granted the Jean Monnet European Union Scholarship and spent more than a year at the Light Technology Institute of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany working on Discomfort Glare from Light Emitting Diodes. She has been teaching lighting courses along with other engineering courses at the Electrical Engineering Department of Istanbul Technical University since 2013, where she currently is a faculty member and the Department Vice Head. She’s also responsible for the Lighting Technology Laboratory of the same department. Dr. Erdem Atılgan has been co-teaching the lighting part of the Sensory Architecture: Sound and Light lecture offered at the Architecture Department of Istanbul Bilgi University for the last 3 years. She also offers an online course on lighting at the University of Djibouti. Her areas of interest focus on lighting technologies, light emitting diodes (LEDs) and energy efficiency. She’s an active member of the Turkish National Committee on Lighting and the International Commission on Illumination.
