CITyFiED project aims to develop a replicable systemic and integrated strategy to adapt Europeancities and urban ecosystems into the smart city of the future focusing on reducing the energy demand andGHG emissions and increasing the use of renewable energy sources by developing and implementinginnovative technologies and methodologies for building renovation smart grid and district heating networksand their interfaces with ICTs and Mobility An extensive demonstration action will be carried out as part of CITyFiED involving a relevant number ofcities and the necessary technological stakeholders in a cluster with the aim of maximizing the impact andreplication potential from three high level and very ambitious demonstration projects that will be carried outat Laguna Valladolid Soma and Lund More than 15 cities have already signed a letter expressing theirinterest to be part of this cluster The demonstrations will address a holistic district renovation deployinginnovative and cost effective technologies for a high increase of the overall energy efficiency and a relevantreduction of the environmental impact A deep retrofitting of the buildings an innovative district heating andcooling concept and a set of solutions to improve the grid management and increase the distributed electricity generation are going to be carried out in order to achieve powerful models suitable for replication across Europe In parallel with the demonstrative actions as a part of the integrated strategy to adapt the cities CITyFiEDwill develop innovative and cost effective methodologies and procedures for planning deploying andreplicating energy efficient district retrofitting actions resulting in low energy and zero emission citiesand urban areas taking into account the technological availability for retrofitting buildings deploying HVACfacilities based on a district scale and also integrating distributed electricity generation Renewable energies and waste energy recovery will play a key role in this approach towards a clean energy city strategy that will reduce drastically the CO2 emissions Other key part of this strategy is a very ambitious dissemination activity in which the cluster of cities willbe properly integrated It is also foreseen to give a clear message to professionals academic audiences and the citizens in general about the benefits of the energy efficiency in the city environment not only regarding the energy issues related with buildings but also addressing complementary issues such as mobility in order to modify the user behaviour towards a more sustainable awareness CITyFiED will try to access more than 100 000 people in all of Europe by means of a wide dissemination plan by using the more innovative media technologies

R2CITIES aims to develop and demonstrate an open and easily replicable strategy for designing constructing and managing large scale district renovation projects for achieving nearly zero energy cities For this purpose itwill be developed a demonstration and dissemination framework of very innovative strategies and solutions forbuilding energy renovation at district level based in the following pillars Three demonstrations of residential district retrofitting in different countries climate conditions user s habits A very ambitious dissemination programme focused on public and professional audiences Several studies of cost effective solutions for the holistic improvement of the energy performance ofbuildings at district level definition of standard indicators and new diagnosis approach analysis ofexisting energy technologies in a systemic approach new strategies for urban energy planning Deployment of a rigorous measurement and verification of energy performance and savings plan foreach demonstration taking into account standard protocols as IPMVP A market and replication deployment plan in order to ensure the project impact at business level and aresults exploitation strategy suitable for achieve a wide impact The R2CITIES framework will be validated and refined by a strong demonstration programme envisaging therenovation of more than 57 000 square meters of residential buildings arriving to a total renovation of800 000 square meters that will be deployed in the following years
