Dr. Gül is a Professor of Architecture in the Department of Architecture and Architectural Design Computing Program at Istanbul Technical University since 2014. She is the head of the graduate program of Game and Interaction Technologies, and the coordinator of the Architectural Design Computing Program. She was the manager of ITU Centre of Women Studies in Science, Engineering and Technology between 2018-2021. She holds degrees in Master of Design Science, Master of Urban Conservation and Bachelor of Architecture. She completed her PhD in Architecture at the Key Centre of Design Computing and Cognition at the University of Sydney in 2007. Prior to this, she worked in the Department of Architecture at the TOBB University of Economics and Technology (ETU) between 2011- 2014. Before then, she was invited to be a founding member of the Architecture Program Committee to establish a new Architecture Program at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) in 2009. She worked at the School of Architecture and Built Environment at the University of Newcastle, Australia between March 2007 and February 2009 as a research fellow.
She was awarded several research projects 1001 and 1002 grands funded by TÜBİTAK and BAP and International Research Projects funded by ITU in 2013-2022 and Erasmus+ KA203 project in 2017. She was awarded the University of Newcastle Early Career Researcher Grant, the New Staff Grant, two travel grants, and she worked in a WorkCover Assist Applied Research Project funded by WorkCover Authority of New South Wales, Australia. In 2005 she participated in a research project that was funded by the prestigious Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Construction Innovation in Australia. She was visiting scholar of Macquarie University, Australia in 2018. She has achieved a good track record in areas of architecture, design education, digital design and computation. She has extended her research interest to various interdisciplinary areas of design and technology. Her research interests includes design computing and immersive technologies, game and serious games in heritage context, artificial intelligence as design assistance, navigation in virtual space, human design behaviour, collaborative design and cognitive design studies.
