This project from students at Istanbul Technical University focuses on the snapping shrimp, one of the loudest and broadest frequency band sources in the acoustic wave domain. Despite their small size, the claws of these shrimp, which generate loud snapping sounds, are nearly half the length of their entire body. The rapid closure of these claws generates a cavitation bubble, which collapses due to the high ambient pressure, emitting a sharp snapping signal. This project aims to collect both acoustic and visual data on snapping shrimp in the Turkish marine waters, the North Aegean region, including areas around Gökçeada and Gelibolu. The students have partnered with the Turkish Marine Research Foundation (TUDAV) to complete this project. Scheduled over three different periods, the data collection will involve divers deploying AudioMoth acoustic sensors on the sea floor and securing Istanbul Technical University ARISLAB hydrophones with buoys. Cameras mounted on long poles from boats will record the underwater environment, and the divers will retrieve the AudioMoths after each session. The processing of this multi-temporal data will be undertaken by students. A critical phase of this project is the development of a web interface where the gathered data and results will be accessible. This project was made possible by $9,500.00 in funding from the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS), an EPICS in IEEE partner.

Projenin ana konusu Batı Anadolu'daki pilot bölgede (Belevi, Selçuk, İzmir) zeytinliklerin verimliliğinin "akıllı" takibidir. IEEE EPICS (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers - Engineering Projects in Community Service) Programı kapsamında desteklenen proje ile; zeytin ürünlerinin "akıllı" izlenmesi özelinde, tarım araştırmalarını hızlandırmak ve çiftçilere yardımcı sistemlerin geliştirilmesi öngörülmüştür. Tarım arazisinin drone üzerindeki optik, termal, hiperspektral kamera verilerinin toplanmasıyla ağaç sayısının ve konumlarının belirlenmesi, dönemsel farklılıkların gözlemlenmesi ve zeytin ürün kalitesinin artırımı için çalışmalar yapılmaktadır.
