ABOUT ME
Hande Demirel is a full Professor specialized in Spatial Information Science at the Technical University of Istanbul (ITU) Department of Geomatics Engineering. She received B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from ITU. She has a Ph.D. in Geoinformatics from the Technical University Berlin-TUB (Germany). She was acting as scientific researcher at the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (EC-JRC) during the period of 2011-2014, with particular reference to transportation, mobility, resilience, spatial databases and climate change impacts on various sectors. Her expertise is on spatial data acquisition- image processing, earth observation etc.-, modelling and analysis from both the theoretical and empirical viewpoint.
Hande Demirel has been involved in several national and international scientific and technical projects, funded by European Union, European Research Council and National science foundation of Turkey -TUBITAK - , in addition to her ongoing research on complex networks, system analysis, earth observation, building information modelling, spatial data modelling and climate change impact analyses on which she has been teaching and has authored over 85 papers in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings. She is a voluntary member of Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Programs- Turkey, where the association is also a member of European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education and the Washington Accord of International Engineering Alliance.
