Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömer Berkehan İnal is a faculty member in the Department of Marine Engineering at Istanbul Technical University. His research focuses on maritime decarbonization, alternative marine fuels, hybrid and electric propulsion systems, fuel cells, energy storage, ship energy management, and maritime emissions regulations.
His work combines operational ship data, simulation, optimization, and techno-economic assessment to support the development of practical low- and zero-emission solutions for the maritime industry. His current research interests include FuelEU Maritime, EU ETS, hybrid marine energy systems, hydrogen and ammonia applications, energy-efficiency measures, and fleet decarbonization strategies.
He conducted postdoctoral research in France and is qualified by the French National Council of Universities, CNU Section 62, for Maître de Conférences (Assoc. Prof.) positions. His professional background also includes onboard experience on oil and chemical tankers as an engine cadet and third engineer.
