The aim of the project is to map the current aquatic pollutants in the central rift valley of Ethiopia. The major land use changes will be associated with commercial agricultural activity. Effluent points in the area will be surveyed via recorded GPS coordinates that will be used for mapping. The data of pesticide and agrochemical usage will be collected from largescale farms indicated as hotspot areas of pollution. Physicochemical and toxicological parameters as well as Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) data will be collected for a randomly selected registered pesticides in Ethiopia. Risk assessment will be performed using a risk assessment model called PRIMET (Pesticides Risks in the tropics to Man, Environment and Trade) for the data of field and the registered Ethiopian pesticides. GIS (Geographical Information System) mapping will be linked with risk assessment scenario zones and the riskiest agrochemical areas will be indicated. Results are expected to indicate which hotspots are the most vulnerable when it comes to anthropological pollutants and another contribution will be for the introduction of the current developed tool for the calculation of environmental concentrations and risk assessment of agrochemicals.
